Doula Support + Photography
$1800 (payment plans available)
I’m a birth and postpartum doula and film photographer offering trauma-informed support and storytelling for families navigating birth and postpartum. My practice blends emotional attunement, ancestral reverence, and documentary style photography to create space for healing and beauty in life’s most vulnerable transitions.
My carework is best in spaces that allow for a collaborative approach that will honor your specific needs for your birth and postpartum journey. For birth clients, we will meet 3 times in person or virtually up until 38 weeks of gestation but my support will be available throughout your journey. Our meetings will primarily focus on ways I can support you in and out of the birthing space, your birth preferences, postpartum support, and how you are feeling emotionally about pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I will provide continuous labor support, comfort measures and movement practices, advocacy, and care throughout your labor.
Birth photography is included in this offering as a deeply meaningful way for me to support and honor your experience. During labor, this might look like me moving between offering hands on support when needed and then stepping back to document the moment. I might not capture every detail of your labor but I aim to capture a story that shows the emotional feelings of the moment. I photograph with color and black and white film and utilize flash photography, if needed, all on 35mm film and Polaroid film.
I’m also a trauma-informed therapist, and that lens is central to how I support clients through the birth continuum. I understand that birth can surface past wounds, shape our sense of identity, and live in the body long after the moment has passed. Whether you’re processing fear, loss, joy, or uncertainty, I offer emotional support that honors your nervous system and lived experience.
My work is especially for families of color, trauma survivors, and those seeking to feel seen, not just cared for. I offer a free 1 hour virtual consultation to discuss your birth and explore if we might be a good fit. Please contact me here and I will respond within 24-48 hours via email with details about how to schedule a consult.
Postpartum visit
This offering includes one postpartum visit where we will talk through your birth story, tend to any physical or emotional needs, and reflect on how your transition into this new chapter is unfolding. We may also use this time to talk about nourishment, support with newborn care, such as feeding or sleep, or discuss resources you may need during this time.
My Birth Story
the short version
This offering was born from my own experience of giving birth as a Black woman in America. When I found out I was pregnant, my deepest fear was that I wouldn’t make it out of the hospital alive. I thought my doula training would be enough to carry me through and that I could "train" my partner to take on that role but I quickly realized how much more I needed. Though I had a beautiful birth and a deeply supportive partner, I longed for someone who could guide us on this journey, gently challenge the default path, and advocate alongside us.
I didn’t have a birth photographer, just one iPhone photo and a blurry Polaroid. And yet, those two imperfect images became sacred to me. They reminded me how powerful it is to have your story witnessed and preserved. They speak to the reality of my birthing experience: a presence so consuming that once we saw our daughter’s face, we forgot anyone else was even in the room.
And as beautiful as that was, I still long for visual documentation of my birth. The most mind, body, soul-altering experience I ever had, and one I cherish so deeply, is remembered now only in fragments, shared between me and my partner. And even those memories grow fuzzier with time.
Photographs don’t offer the true memory of an event, but they offer something else, something just as vital: reflection, interpretation, understanding, inspiration, hope, love, and a story worth sharing over and over again.
